Another centuries old Masjid demolished in India

Bulldozers have demolished the centuries old Masjid in India's capital, an individual from the Masjid's managing committee said on Thursday during a demolition drive to eliminate "illegal" structures from a forest reserve.

The destruction comes at a sensitive time in India with nationalist activists encouraged in their long campaign for the supplanting of a several prominent Masjid with Hindu temples.

The Masjid Akhonji in New Delhi, which its guardians express is around 600 years of age, was home to 22 students signed up for an Islamic boarding school. It was destroyed on Tuesday in a forest of Mehrauli.
