From Summer Woes to Soul's Refreshment, The Rooh Afza Story of Hakim Hafiz Abdul Majeed

Hakim Hafiz Abdul Majeed, a scholar of Unani medicine, founded Rooh Afza in Delhi in 1906, aiming to combat summer heat. Crafted from herbs and syrups, Rooh Afza, meaning "refreshment of the soul" in Urdu, not only tasted delicious but also boasted a colorful label by Mirza Noor Ahmad, a rarity in 1910. After Hakim's passing in 1922, his family continued his legacy, expanding production and establishing the Hamdard Trust, dedicating 85% of profits to charity. His sons furthered Rooh Afza's reach, with one nurturing its Indian branch and the other establishing Hamdard in Pakistan, later gifting it to Bangladesh after independence. Hakim's journey isn't merely about a energizing drink; it's a tale of family, innovation, and philanthropy. Although his financial status remains private, his real richness lies in the happiness he spread with every sip of Rooh Afza, leaving a legacy that continues to refresh and delight across generations.
