Umayyad Caliphate was the biggest empire of Islamic History

Umayyad Caliphate ruled from 661 to 750, capital was Damascus, population was 62 million and area covered by them was 15 million km².

After the death of Hazrat Ali (R.A), the empire of Muslims of the Khilafat-e-Rashida (first caliphate) floated into a battle for control between Hazrat Hassan (R.A) and Ameer Muawiya (R.A). Yet, in the long run to save the empire from civil war, Hazrat Hassan (R.A) surrendered the caliphate for Hazrat Ameer Muawiya (R.A.), in this way denoting the start of the Umayyad Caliphate.

They laid out the biggest Arab Muslim State in history uptil today. In 712, the Berber General Tariq ibn Ziyad caught Spain for the caliphate. They kept on ruling Spain for the following 300 years. Their caliphate was toppled by the Abbasid after their loss at the Battle of Zab.
